Everything You Need to Know to #TransferToTeal

Transferring to UNCW is not as daunting a process as it might seem. Below, find all the crucial information you need to make your transfer smooth and easy.

Deadlines

UNCW has priority deadlines for transfer applicants. You should plan to submit your application before these deadlines for the best chance of admission, but we’ll continue to accept students after the deadline if space is available.

Priority Deadline for Summer & Fall Entry: March 1 of each year

Priority Deadline for Spring Entry: October 15 of each year

What Your Application Needs

A checklist for your thoughts:

  • Application fee ($80, nonrefundable)
  • Essay
  • Work history
  • Official final transcripts from your high school or GED program
  • Official college transcripts from all institutions you’ve attended
  • North Carolina RCN (Residency Certification Number)
  • Test scores from AP, IB or CLEP exams, if applicable
  • Official military transcripts, if applicable

Those are what’s important for your application. For your best chance at being admitted, you should also have these:

  • High school minimum course requirements (if you’re under 21)
  • 24 hours of college-level coursework at your current institution (at least 12 hours complete; the rest can be in-progress)
  • A cumulative 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Eligibility to return to the last institution attended
  • Optional, but it will better your chances: 3 credit hours of college-level math and 6 credit hours of college-level English

Transferring Credit from Your Previous School

UNCW accepts up to 64 hours of credit from a two-year institution with a grade of C or better; for four-year institutions, it’s up to 93 hours of credit. You can check how your courses will transfer to UNCW with this tool.

What Will It Cost?

The estimated cost of attendance changes every year and can be found at this link. For the 2018-2019 school year, the estimated total cost of attendance for a North Carolina resident student, including tuition, room and board, health insurance and other costs, was $24,939. For an out-of-state student, the cost was estimated at $38,955.

Remember, this is an estimate, not a final number. Lots of factors can impact your cost of attendance. Your health insurance costs, for example, will change depending on whether or not you enroll in UNCW’s health insurance or an outside plan. Transportation costs will be impacted by whether you choose to drive, bike, ride the bus or carpool. Housing costs will change depending on what housing you choose, whether it’s on-campus or off-campus.

Financial Aid

UNCW FIRST DAY OF CLASS, AUGUST 22, 2018

The UNCW Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid can be reached at finaid@uncw.edu, 910-962-3177 or on their website.

The biggest source of financial aid for college students is the FAFSA–the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Fill out the FAFSA by each annual priority filing deadline to have the best chance to get the most financial aid. The FAFSA can help you receive federal and state grants (money that does not have to be repaid), scholarships, federal work-study qualification, and federal loans. Learn more about types of financial aid here.

UNCW’s scholarship application is open every year from December 1 to March 1. Institutional merit scholarships–scholarships awarded to students based on academic excellence and leadership–are the largest source of scholarships at UNCW.

For additional questions or information, speak to your financial aid counselor.
